Overtime Spotlights
Every week we will highlight some of the invaluable players, teams, and staff that make up the incredible MNCS community!
This week’s player spotlight:
Player: Dicey
Team: Rochester Rhythm Challenger Age: 23
Location: Ramsey, Minnesota
Hours in game: “About 2,120 on my pc, and probably had another 1,000 on my xbox account. So 3,120 total”
Controller type: “I've used the same xbox one controller for about 4 years now and will never change from it.”
Favorite game besides RL?: “Valorant. My peak was diamond 1 (currently only plat 2) and I typically only play when my IRL friends are on late at night.”
Car of Choice: “Octane (I think my nimbus days might be done)”
Boost or Ball: “Always the ball. Better to have no boost and in the right position than to have full boost and in the wrong position :)”
Game mode of choice: “3's. 2's is too ballchasy for me and I'm not mechanical enough to strive in 1s''
Favorite show - Survivor Favorite sports team - Vegas Golden Knights
If there was only one thing that you wanted the league to know about you, what would that be? “I hate to lose more than I love to win.”
Tell us about your history in MNCS:
“After years of grinding Call of Duty and joining sniping/knifing teams, I opted into a different genre of games. My friend told me about Rocket League in 2018 and the rest is history. I participated in a Mystic Lake tournament (PlayerUp LAN) in August of 2019 with 2 of my IRL friends when my peak was champ 3. Realized a lot of the teams there playing knew each other personally so I asked them and they gave me the link to the MNGG discord server. I bought a PC that same year and the MNCS league started up simultaneously so it was perfect timing.
Biggest moment was in season 3 after having a perfect record of 20-0. Obviously it was nice to have won the championship, but it was extremely rewarding to see iChaotic and PCMcD win after all of their hard work and dedication.”
Past teams: Season 1 - Alexandria Monarchs w/nathaN & Wastee - 3rd/4th place Season 2 - Prior Lake Penguins w/Quack & DcuRt - 3rd/4th place Season 3 - Rochester Riff w/iChaotic & PCMcD - 1st place Season 4 - Minneapolis Magic w/Grape & Bomb - 2nd place
How do you feel going into Season 5?
“I feel as motivated as ever to win this season as I have in the past, and look forward to potentially making 3 grand finals back-to-back-to-back. With the season only 11 weeks long instead of 18, there will be a lot more pressure on winning my weekly matches. I always want to be in the spotlight and under pressure so I hope that this favors my team and myself. With being a GM, I am a lot more excited about the league as a whole, since I control a Premier and Rising Star team. I think this season I will be focusing a lot less on my individual ability within the game and more on my leadership and pushing the players around me to win and improve.”
Do you have any “rivals” in the league? Which players are you excited to face this season?
"My biggest rivals would have to be Colbs and Prussia. Colbs has become the person I have gotten closest to in the league so beating him would be awesome. And Prussia beat me in the grand finals last season so I would like to return the favor. I also look forward to playing against PCMcD and iChaotic because of our history together. I have also known Tarr for awhile so overcoming his bounce shots will be an objective of mine."
What do you think separates your team from the rest of the league? What about your franchise?
"I think Calster is the best player in Challenger, even if he only can play on game days most weeks. His experience and ability to beat people to the ball is gonna be key to winning in close games. Renbo's commitment and willingness to learn and improve this season is gonna pay off in the long run and I'm excited to see his ceiling. For my franchise as a whole, I believe Vanish is the best player in the league and will do an excellent job at leading our Premier team with incoming rookie Fours, and John Combine himself, Conundrum Effect. sbaves15, Joebrothehobo, and AMR come into this season with an insane amount of chemistry and have seen success in the past regarding league placements. I think they are the best team in Rising Stars right now and have dependable subs in Panzu and Spork if they ever miss a match."
Tune every Friday Night to see Dicey in action as the Rochester Rhythm Challenger squad fights for the Season 5 championship title!
